The Mice Are Away and the Cats Are...

You might have noticed we haven't posted much this week. There's a simple explanation. It's spring break and...

We packed Miranda off to Los Angeles.

She performed on the Blues Brothers Stage at Universal Studios Hollywood, met the cast of Disney's Sunny with a Chance, and bought some "really cute outfits" at Varga. I'm not sure we'll ever get her to come home!

The "Littles" (I guess we better stop calling them that before they start high school!) are spending the week with Grammy and Dampa...

So that leaves Jason and I, alone in the house with Ruby.

PARTY! Right?!?

Well, if by party you mean

Getting up at 3:45 a.m. Monday to host Morning Edition and coming home to ...

eight loads of laundry.

Or spending the rest of the week ...

weeding the garden (or what will hopefully one day qualify as a garden!).

And ...

painting (bedroom). And...

more painting (family room windows, baseboards, door trim).

Then yes... we are

Not much to report on the food front. Yes, we've been eating. Vegetarian tacos, eggs & hashbrowns, bangers and oven fries. Nothing spectacular. Just food to fuel us through this massive work-cation of ours!

We are planning to make a real meal Thursday, in honor of St. Paddy. Corn Beef and Cabbage sounds good. But perhaps a little cliche?! Could do Irish Stew, 'cept we don't eat lamb. Dublin Coddle sounds interesting. All of the recipes we find a very meat-centric. Aren't there any vegetarians in Ireland?

Mmmm.... maybe some Potato and Leek Soup

with a side of Colcannon Potatoes and Cabbage

Jason and I may have to put down the paint brushes long enough to arm-wrestle on the cabbage-v-beef thing.

Are you planning anything special for St. Patrick's Day? Sticking with something traditional or mixing it up a bit? We'd love to hear what you've got planned!

  1. What great opportunities the Red Mountain Performance groups get!! Hopefully one year Mana will make it in the groups! Sounds like a great trip.

  2. I'm just putting 2 & 2 together that you're local. I hopped over to your blog today and saw the wonderful Kristy White with Mana. We LOVE Kristi!!

So, I'm guessing Mana does the summer workshops? Which age group is she in? All 3 of my girls do them (ages 10, 12 and 16). Only Miranda does the year-round performing group, though Hannah will be trying out for Previews this year.

They're going to have so much fun!

  3. She has been to the summer workshops for the past three years. She is 11. She will not be able to go this summer. I really hate she will have to miss it.

  4. Aww, that's too bad! Hannah and MIranda will be there. Olivia may have to miss. She's on the verge of making team at gymnastics and if she does she'll have to be in the gym 3 mornings a week.
